As you may know, Federal Law requires all 50 States to provide dental benefits to children who are enrolled in Medicaid through CHIP (Child Health Insurance Program). The standard benefits include:

At A Perfect Smile Orthodontics McAllen, we are asked often if we take Medicaid for our treatments. The question isn’t really whether we take Medicaid, the real question is: Will Medicaid cover braces?

Unfortunately, Medicaid stopped covering orthodontic care in 2012. So while we would work with Medicaid coverage if we could, this is no longer an option. Medicaid will not cover braces. So, to help families and individuals be able to get the orthodontic care they need, A Perfect Smile Orthodontics does offer interest-free, in-house financing with very low down-payments, no credit checks, and low monthly payments. We are doing all we can to make high-quality orthodontic care available to everyone.

Medicaid Coverage of Braces

Medicaid may cover children under the age of 21 for Orthodontic care ONLY if deemed necessary by a physician because of a serious medical condition, such as cleft palate or lip or serious congenital defects. It is important to note, that the above-mentioned conditions may cause significant chewing or digestive issues that require repair to prevent major medical problems in the future.  This is the only reason Medicaid will consider coverage for these conditions. In VERY rare conditions Medicaid will cover the cost of braces for adults if medical necessity is a critical factor.
